MVRDV - MVRDV presents ‘Les Quartiers de Demain’ in Arc en Reve, Bordeaux

MVRDV presents ‘Les Quartiers de Demain’ in Arc en Reve, Bordeaux

MVRDV is participating in an exhibition dedicated to ‘les quartiers de demain’ in Arc en Reve, Bordeaux, organized by French real estate investor Kaufman & Broad.

The exhibition shows a selection of the communities of tomorrow that MVRDV creates all over the world. There is a special focus on Ilot Queyries, a pilot project by MVRDV in Bordeaux updating the European city with intimacy, liveliness, light and an adapted scale. The exhibition is on show from 14 March to 26 May 2019. The program includes a lecture by MVRDV founding partner Winy Maas on 23 May.

The Bordeaux exhibition focusses on one hand on the thread of the European cities with a special glance to the Franch development and on the other on the values of the European city: Where are we now and what can we do as a next evolution of the European City? How to make the city, its planning and its architecture more specific and more precise? How to create an urban plan that is European in its DNA and -in France- above all French? What values do we see in that view? How to create an urban plan that respects history and answers to local context? How to make it  green and sustainable? How to make it intimate and surprising? Accessible for everybody? Mixed and lively? How to human scale, for humans and not for cars?

The project of Quai des Queyries and Bastide Niel shows a specific plan for Bordeaux, based on local history, based on local conditions and local ambitions while in the second part of the exhibition you can find the international context of the communities of tomorrow that MVRDV creates all over Europe and the globe: Architecture and planning with a human scale, based on social interaction and liberties of the users to create their own lifestyles.
